The latest Art news from Hawick High.
Picture This! (Tues 28th Sept 2010)
One of our S6 pupils from last session, Emma Elliot-Walker has had her final painting selected as the 'Painting of the Week' in the Times Educational Supplement. An open invitation was extended to all schools in Scotland to submit work, so it's a big achievement for Emma to have her work selected - and it is more positive publicity for the Art Department and for Hawick High School. Well done Emma!
Art Clubs (27th Sept 2010)
For information about this session's Art Clubs see the panel on the 'Art at Hawick High' page.
Website Update (22nd Sept 2010)
The website now has a section called 'My Favourite Artwork'. We are keen for any member of staff or pupil to submit a favourite painting, sculpture, photograph, etc. - by either a famous or local artist - together with a commentary of at least 100 words to explain why this work means a lot to you. Each person will be given a page which you can then add other works to - to create a personal gallery. We are hoping this idea will take off as it will make a very good teaching aid. It is important that the commentary is a well written and carefully considered statement as we want to maintain a high standard of content throughout the website. If you are interested please submit your commentary as a Word document and attach the image. Thanks.
Andy Norman Retires (4th Aug 2010)
The Art Department at Hawick High have bid farewell to Mr Andy Norman after almost 30 years of teaching at the school. This will be a big change for Mr Norman and for the Department who will need to adjust to being without one of our most experienced and valued colleagues. We wish Andy well in this new phase of his life and hope he has a very happy and carefree retirement. We will be joined from August by a new teacher Suzanne Alderson who has recently completed her probation and has been working at Ardrossan Academy.
Exhibition at Towermill (4th Aug 2010)
The Art Department at Hawick High recently collaborated with the Hawick Art Club to celebrate their 80th Anniversary by mounting a display of artwork which was on display at the Towermill building during the month of July. Two prizewinning pictures from S1 and S2 were framed and exhibited alongside the main Art Club exhibition at the Scott Gallery in the Wilton Lodge Museum. Thanks to Liz Jackson for all her work in co-ordinating this event.
